Description:
The Institute of Comparative and Indo-European Linguistics and Albanology at Ludwig-Maximilians University (LMU) in Munich, Germany invites applications for a 35% position of Lecturer in Albanian Studies with a start date of October 1, 2025. This is a two-year non-tenure track, specialized lecturer position which is renewable yearly contingent on availability of funding, strong performance reviews and healthy enrollments in classes.
The successful candidate will teach the equivalent of 2-3 courses per academic year to both heritage and non-heritage students with the possibility of teaching other courses in literature and linguistics. Duties include teaching, grading, holding office hours, attending meetings, planning and overseeing extra-curricular activities, organizing special events (such as languages days, film nights, conversation tables, etc), and promoting the Albanian language program at LMU. Candidates will be expected to work in close coordination with colleagues at the Institute of Comparative and Indo-European Linguistics and Albanology as well as other departments within the Faculty of Language and Literature within LMU.
Required Qualifications:
∙ Applicants must have a Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Albanian language studies, linguistics, literature, or related area.
∙ Applicants must have native or near-native proficiency in both spoken and written Albanian, and fluency in either spoken and written German or English.
∙ Applicants must have at least two years of experience teaching Albanian as a second/foreign language or heritage language at the college or university level.
∙ Applicants must have experience of teaching at least one class in linguistics, literature or other related topic course at the college or university level.
