Biodiversiteti detar vuar nga ndotja e ujit, trafiku detar dhe degradimi e humbja direkte apo indirekte e habitatit. Kёto sfida prekin autoritetet kombёtare dhe rajonale qё kanё qasje tё ndsyshme ndaj zbatimit tё rregulloreve dhe marrёveshjeve ekzistuese, por gjithashtu grupet ekonomikё tё interesit dhe publikun e gjerё, i cili mund tё pёrfitojё nga tё mirat e shёrbimeve tё ekosistemit qё deti ofron. SAMESEA bazohet nё supozimin se nёse njё basen nuk menaxhohet nё mёnyrё tё qёndrueshme, aktivitetet socio-ekonomike nuk do tё mund tё vazhdojnё pёr vite, dhe llojet detare do tё ulen nё mёnyrё substanciale. Bashkёpunimi ёshtё thelbёsor nё nivelin makro-rajonal por edhe midis interesave tё ndryshme tё pёrfshira pёr tё krijuar njё bashkёjetesё funksionale dhe tё qёndrueshme. Tё punuarit sё bashku me autoritetet kombёtare, rajonale, qёndrat kёrkimore, OJF-tё dhe agjencitё sektoriale, ёshtё esenciale pёr tё lancuar njё nivel tё ri tё menaxhimit tё riskut, kapitalizimit dhe bashkёpunimit. Konsorciumi do tё identifikojё dhe vlerёsojё rreziqet dhe ndikimet nё llojet sensitive detare dhe ekosistemet relative, tё cilat do tё jenё baza pёr hartimin e Strategjisё sё Pёrbashkёt tё Monitorimit pёr monitorimin e llojeve sensitive detare, veprimet pilot pёr testimin e tyre, zgjidhjet pёr shpёrndarjen e praktikave tё bashkёjetesёs dhe Planin e Veprimit pёr pёrmirёsimin e menaxhimit tё qёndrueshёm tё basenit adriatiko-jonian. Konsorciumi do tё aplikojё metodologji monitorimi, tё mёsojё pёr praktikat e mira tё bashkёekzistencёs dhe tё informojё mbi praktikat e reja, si edhe tё rrisё rrjetёzimin midis anёtarёve. Rajoni EUSAIR (Strategjia BE pёr Rajonin Adriatik dhe Jon – EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Jonian Region) do tё pёrfitojё nga aktivitetet dhe rezultatet e projektit, vecanёrisht rajonet IPA pёrgjatё bregut detar. Project Description – SAMESEA

Sustainable Management of Sensitive Marine Species and the Interaction of Human Activities

Duration: 2024–2027

The SAMESEA project aims to enhance international harmonization regarding monitoring and coordination practices among different countries and regions, and to improve the currently limited dialogue between socio-economic activities and marine biodiversity conservation. Marine biodiversity suffers from water pollution, maritime traffic, and the direct or indirect degradation and loss of habitat. These challenges impact national and regional authorities, which have different approaches to implementing existing regulations and agreements, as well as economic interest groups and the wider public, who benefit from the ecosystem services provided by the sea.

SAMESEA is based on the assumption that if a marine basin is not managed sustainably, socio-economic activities will not be able to continue over the years, and marine species will decline substantially. Cooperation is essential at both the macro-regional level and among the various interests involved, in order to create functional and sustainable coexistence. Working together with national and regional authorities, research centers, NGOs, and sectoral agencies is crucial for launching a new level of risk management, capitalization, and collaboration.

The consortium will identify and assess risks and impacts on sensitive marine species and their related ecosystems, which will serve as the basis for developing the Joint Monitoring Strategy for monitoring sensitive marine species, pilot actions for testing the strategy, solutions for distributing coexistence practices, and an Action Plan to improve the sustainable management of the Adriatic–Ionian basin.

The consortium will apply monitoring methodologies, learn about best coexistence practices, provide information on new practices, and strengthen networking among members. The EUSAIR region (EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region) will benefit from the project’s activities and results, particularly the IPA coastal regions.

SAMESEA will improve the sustainable management of interactions between sensitive marine species and socio-economic human activities through capitalization, sharing, and networking of stakeholders concerned with the wellbeing of the Adriatic–Ionian ecosystem.

Project Objective

The overall objective of the project is to improve the management of interactions between socio-economic activities and sensitive marine species in the EUSAIR region so that these interactions become sustainable.

The consortium will work to harmonize monitoring protocols, capitalize on best coexistence practices, and create an international network capable of collaborating with as many stakeholders as possible involved in the sustainable management of the Adriatic–Ionian region.

SAMESEA builds upon the EUSAIR strategy, aiming to promote a joint management strategy for marine ecosystems, in which the wellbeing of marine species coexists with socio-economic activities. In this way, SAMESEA will promote regional cooperation to share methodologies, data, and techniques to ensure that the entire EUSAIR region operates in alignment.

Project Consortium

The consortium consists of 11 partners and is led by CoNISMa (National Inter-University Consortium for Marine Sciences, Italy), a representative body of global marine scientific research, which will manage managerial and financial aspects.

Among the project partners, the Aleksandër Moisiu University of Durrës, Albania, will contribute to data dissemination and the advancement of knowledge concerning the situation along the coastal and IPA areas. It will also support partners in pilot activities by activating local networks for activity analyses and engaging students and tourists.

In addition to project partners, SAMESEA includes 20 associated partners, who will mainly support project partners in communication and promotion activities.

Participating countries include: Italy, Croatia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Montenegro, and Greece.
