University Library

About the Library:

The library was established at the end of 2007 and currently has around 12,000 titles in both Albanian and foreign languages, in both print and electronic formats. The Albanian and foreign collections cover all the faculties of the university. The literature is contemporary, primarily scientific, with an average age of 5-10 years. The collections also include Albanian periodicals from the years 1944-2003. The library subscribes to a number of scientific journals.

The library has three locations. The one in the University Building in Currila serves the Faculty of Information Technology and the Faculty of Professional Studies. Library No. 2, near Building No. 1 in the University Campus, serves the Faculty of Education. The library also has another space and reading room in Building No. 2 of the campus. As a library with open and hybrid collections, it enables access to both physical and digital resources, providing a flexible environment for learning and research online information search, in the reading room, electronic files, ease of bibliographic information search, and the ability to browse electronic literature at the computers in the reading room.

The library has in its structure the computer room No. 205, which allows users to use computers, engage in activities, receive training on using the online catalog, and more.

By utilizing open-source systems, based on the guidelines of the European Union, Article 179 of the Lisbon Treaty on open access resources, and with the support of IFLA, the University Library, in September 2014, installed free of charge the Integrated Online Catalog., for managing its collection. The catalog offers an advanced version for information search. In addition to bibliographic descriptions, the catalog provides free access to electronic articles, theses, research papers, and dissertations by the academic staff of "Aleksandër Moisiu" University.

Virtual Library

The library is also represented in the Virtual Library of Albania "COBIB.AL".

The COBIB.AL database is of fundamental importance to the COBISS.AL system (the national bibliographic system for evaluating research results in Albania), as it plays a central role in the shared cataloging system, in searching for bibliographic information, and in managing the bibliographies of Albanian researchers. The database contains bibliographic records for materials such as books (monographs, serials, articles) and non-books (CDs, DVDs, etc.).

As a member of the Academic Libraries Consortium in Albania, and through the ERA2012 Project (Electronic Resources for Albania), readers gained access to a wide range of high-quality full-text electronic resources. Through Tempus projects, the collection was enriched with the latest titles in Albanian and English related to sustainable development.

The collection is processed bibliographically according to international standards, using UDC (Universal Decimal Classification), ISBD (International Standard Bibliographic Description), the MARC format, and Z39.50 SRU.

Thanks to the "EU Info Point" project, coordinated by the European Commission Delegation in Albania, since October 2009, the University Library has been receiving periodic publications from the EU Publications Office in Luxembourg.
