On October 11, 2023, the first launch meeting of the project "CO2 emission2 by port operators and its impact on the Durrës – Porto Romano port complex" obtained by AKKSHI in collaboration with Business (Durrës Port Authority). This meeting took place according to the agenda from 11:30 – 13:30. This meeting was attended by the General Director of APD, Mr. Pirro Vengu, the UAMD working group and the APD working group.
At this first meeting:
the recognition of the UAMD – APD working groups was carried out;
the project was presented with its goals, objectives, activities, and expected results;
the methodology and equipment that will be used to develop this project were presented;
Vengu discussed the Port Complex and the environmental problems that arise as a result of land and water vehicles both in the port complex in Durrës but also in the Porto Romano area;
He also emphasized the need for cooperation with the University to realize this important project but also to attract other projects of an international nature; creating a bridge of cooperation between the University and the APD by creating expert groups for various Port problems such as the environment, security, logistics, etc.
Mr. Vengu also emphasized that the UAMD group should conduct a visit to the Port and become more closely acquainted with the port facilities, the employees of the Environmental Unit operating in the port, as well as the equipment they use to detect various particles.
On the other hand, both parties emphasized the need to carry out a detailed work plan to begin project activities as soon as possible according to the approved calendar.
According to the project activities, it is aimed to:
identification of the main activities that cause emissions in the terminals of the Durrës-Porto Romano port complex;
real-time measurement of CO2 emissions2 in the port areas of Durrës-Porto Romano;
the use of modern equipment in this analysis;
drafting a mitigation and adaptation plan of measures to prevent and reduce the impact that this gas has on the environment and community;
publications of results in journals with impact factor.
