The Department of Economic Sciences is one of the five basic units of the Faculty of Business, which has twelve members in its composition. Like the other departments of UAMD, the Department of Economic Sciences consists of a relatively young staff, which manages with high quality and responsibility the progress of studies in the three Study Cycles: Bachelor in “Economic Sciences”, Master of Science in “Business Economics”, and Doctorate in “Economic Sciences”.
The teaching is based on contemporary curricula designed by the lecturers themselves, updated and supported by the latest data in the academic field in accordance with the directions that each one possesses with professionalism. The syllabuses have been reviewed in terms of the literature used, to be as contemporary as possible, as well as the accurate and non-repetitive reflection from one stage of the module to the next, to offer students continuous and new and specific knowledge for each module.
The academic staff of DSHEK is a qualified staff with scientific titles and degrees, dedicated to teaching, but also to scientific research. The work of the members of the Department of Economic Sciences is intensive and responsible individual and group work, in support of each other, the student community, the academic-scientific and policy-making community, as well as in support of local business. The development of the learning process is carried out with maximum correctness by the members of the department, dedicating themselves to the complete fulfillment of the learning objectives.
Staff:
Dr. Alma ZISI is a full-time lecturer at the Department of Economic Sciences of the "Aleksandër Moisiu" University of Durrës, since September 2009. She is engaged in teaching the subjects of Micro and Macroeconomics, Public Sector Economics and International Economics.
She completed her higher education in 2002 at the University of Tirana, Faculty of Economics, in the Economics department. She completed her postgraduate studies in “European Economic Studies” in 2006 at the University of Tirana, Faculty of Economics. In December 2014, she received her PhD in the field of “Economic Sciences”, at the Faculty of Business, “Aleksandër Moisiu” University, Durrës. She has presented and published her scientific works in the field of economics in a number of National and International Scientific Conferences and Journals. Her research areas are focused on: Impact of Foreign Direct Investment, Unemployment, problems and challenges among young people, Economic policies in function of sustainable economic growth, etc.
Prof. Dr. Mit’hat Mema is a full-time lecturer at the Department of Economic Sciences of the “Aleksandër Moisiu” University of Durrës, since September 2006 in the subjects of Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Environmental Economics, Managerial Economics and Econometrics. He completed his studies at the Agricultural University of Tirana, Finance Department in 1989. He completed his Master of Science studies in 1998 in the field of Environmental Economics and Territorial Regulation at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Zaragoza, Spain. He holds the scientific degree of Doctor in Economic Sciences obtained at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Zaragoza, Spain. In July 2009 he earned the title of Associate Professor and since December 2012 he holds the title of Professor. Professor Mema has held important positions at the university as Dean, Vice Rector and Rector of the University
Prof. Dr. Mithat Mema is specialized in the field of Natural Resource Economics theory. He also has a prominent experience in the design and implementation of European economic policies in agriculture. He has been part, as a researcher, of more than 5 scientific research projects funded by European institutions. He has also participated in a very significant number of Tempus projects. Prof. Dr. Mithat Mema has published more than 20 scientific articles and is a co-author of three textbooks. He has also participated and referred in more than 35 scientific activities organized in different countries such as Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Romania, Poland, Bulgaria, etc.
His areas of scientific research are focused on: Analysis of the use of Natural Resources; Study of Environmental Impact and Negative Externalities; Labor Market and Demographic Changes; Regional Developments, etc.
Ela Golemi is a professor of Macroeconomics and International Economics, member of the Department of Economic Sciences, Faculty of Business, “Aleksandër Moisiu” University of Durrës. From October 11, 2018 to January 31, 2020, she was Dean of the Faculty of Integrated Studies with Practice. She served as a member of the Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania and a member of the Audit Committee of the Bank of Albania for the period 2011-2018. She earned the degree of Doctor of Economic Sciences in 2016 at the European University of Tirana, as well as the title of Prof. As. Dr. in 2022. She spent the first 12 years of her career in management positions in some of the main second-tier banks in Albania. In the years 2004-2007, she served as Deputy Mayor of Durrës Municipality, heading the department of fiscal policies, budget, audit, social assistance, etc.
Her scientific activity focuses on issues of the country's financial stability and the economic policies of the Western Balkans for integration into the European Union, issues on which she has written scientific articles and published them in European Scientific Journals. She has actively participated in many international scientific conferences, symposia and seminars in Europe and the United States.
Prof. As. Dr. Ermir Shahini is a full-time lecturer at the Department of Economic Sciences of the "Aleksandër Moisiu" University of Durrës, since October 2013 in the subjects Basic and Advanced Micro and Macroeconomics, History of Economic Thought, Economics of Social Issues and Basics of Behavioral Economics.
He completed his higher studies at the University of New York in Tirana, Business Administration Department in 2009. He completed his Master's studies in 2010 from Empire State College, Master of Science in ''Public Law'' in 2012 and Doctorate in Economic Sciences at the Faculty of Business of Aleksander Moisiu University of Durres, in 2016. Since February 2016, he holds the Scientific Degree "Doctor in Economic Sciences" and since February 2023, he holds the title of "Associate Professor" in Economics from the Agricultural University of Tirana. He is also the holder of the title "Real Estate Appraiser", issued by the Academy of Construction by the Ministry of Transport in 2012.
His scientific works in the field of economics have also been presented on the SCOPUS Scientific Works Portal, where until September 2023 he has 9 scientific works and maintains a Hirsch index (Hirsch index) rating of 3, he has also published in a number of National and International Scientific Conferences and Journals. His research areas are focused on: Institutional Efficiency; Economic Policies in Function of Sustainable Economic Growth; Experimental Economics, Behavioral Economics, Legal Economics, etc.
Dr. Alba Ramallari (Allmuça) is a full-time lecturer at the Department of Economic Sciences of the “Aleksandër Moisiu” University of Durrës, since October 2015 in the subjects of Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Public Economics at the Bachelor and Master levels. Since 2008 and onwards, she has taught in the bachelor and master programs at the University of Tirana - Faculty of Economics, Aleksandër Moisiu University in Durrës as well as in Private Universities.
Alba graduated in 2008 from the University of Tirana, Faculty of Economics, Department of Economics. In 2010, she received a Master's degree from the University of Tirana, Faculty of Economics and the University of Bamberg (Germany) for a Master's degree in European Economic Studies. She completed her PhD in Economics with the topic "Public Debt Sustainability" with a grade of "Very Good".
She has completed qualifications in the financial system and statements. Her scientific works in the field of economics, macroeconomics, fiscal and monetary policies, as well as public and international finance have been presented and published in a number of National and International Scientific Conferences and Journals. such as in Greece, Montenegro, Turkey, Czech Republic, Serbia, Kosovo, etc.
He has also published in journals such as US-China, European Research Studies Journal (ERSJ), IJEES, Springer edition, as well as in Economics and Transition.
Dr. Daniela Lika is a lecturer in the Department of Economic Sciences at the University “Aleksandër Moisiu”, Durrës. She holds a degree from the University ‘Aleksander Xhuvani’ (DINII, in Finance-Accounting), from the University ‘Aleksandër Moisiu’ (MS in Finance-Banking) and from the International University of Struga (PhD in Economic Sciences).
Previously, she held the position of Accountant in several companies (Kurum International sh. a, Delta sh.a, Primalat sh.p.k).
Dr. Daniela Lika is the co-author of two lecture series (Macroeconomics, Crisis Economics) and several publications in scientific journals and regional, national and international conferences. Her works are focused on sustainable economic development, free trade and crisis economics.
Dr. Entela Velaj is a full-time lecturer at the Department of Economic Sciences of the “Aleksandër Moisiu” University of Durrës, since October 2012 and continuing in the subjects of Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Managerial Economics. She completed her studies at the Academy of Public Order in 1998. In 2009 she completed her studies at the Faculty of Business at Kristal University, “Finance” profile. In 2011 she graduated from Master i Shkencave at the Faculty of Business, at the Aleksandër Moisiu University of Durrës in the “Financial Administration” profile. In 2016, she received the “Doctor of Science” degree with the topic: “Efficiency of direct and indirect taxes, valuation model” in Economic Sciences at the “Aleksandër Moisiu” University of Durrës. She holds the title of “Tax-Customs Consultant” since 2011. Until 2008, she was a tax inspector at the Regional Tax Directorate of Durrës. Since 2009, she has managed a fiscal consultancy studio mainly for foreign companies operating in Albania.
She is the author of several scientific publications in the field of economics and taxation in scientific journals and international conferences, where her field of research is taxes and fiscal policies.
Jonida Gashi has been a lecturer in the Department of Economic Sciences at the “Aleksandër Moisiu” University, Durrës since 2008. Her main subjects are Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Labor Market Economics, Environmental Economics and Managerial Economics. She holds a University Degree in Economics and Business, profile Economics of Institutions and Financial Markets issued by the “Giorgio Fua” University of Studies of Ancona, Italy. Her further studies include a Master in Strategy and Firm Management, profile Strategy and Finance for Urban Transformation, “Adriano Olivetti” Institute of Studies for Economic and Firm Administration, Ancona, Italy and a Second Level Master’s Degree in Business Administration, profile Finance-Accounting, “Marin Barleti” University, Tirana, Albania. She currently holds the title of ''Doctor of Science'' in Economic Sciences, defending her thesis ''Labor Productivity and Economies of Scale''.
Jonida Gashi is the author and co-author of several publications in scientific journals and regional, national and international conferences in various fields such as: Economic policies and European integrity, Employment issues and programs in Albania, Wages and inflation, Tax policies in Albania, Inflation and economic growth, Consumption and GP, Blue economy, etc.
Dr. Llambi PRENDI is a lecturer at the Department of Economic Sciences at the “Aleksander Moisiu” University, Durrës. He graduated from the University of Tirana (Bsc. Economics), Msc. Business Administration at the “Aleksander Moisiu” University, Durrës and also earned a Doctorate in Economic Sciences at the “Aleksander Moisiu” University. During his career, he has held positions such as: Brand Manager at “Century 21”, Deputy Director at the Abissnet company, Member of the Supervisory Board at the Tirana Stock Exchange and FAF.sha. In his current position at UAMD, he teaches the following courses: Basics of Microeconomics, Advanced Microeconomics, Basics of Macroeconomics, Advanced Macroeconomics for bachelor students and Managerial Economics, World Crisis Economics for master students.
Dr. Llambi Prendi is co-author of three books: (Managerial Economics, Microeconomics, Crisis Economics) and more than 20 publications in scientific journals and regional, national and international conferences, focused on Circular Economy; Microeconomics; Macroeconomics.
Dr. Irini Goga is a full-time lecturer at the Department of Economic Sciences of the “Aleksandër Moisiu” University of Durrës, since September 2023. Since 20013, she has taught in the bachelor's program at the Agricultural University of Tirana - Faculty of Economics and Agribusiness. In 2021, she returns to teaching at the European University of Tirana.
Irini graduated in 2001 from the Agricultural University of Tirana - Faculty of Economics and Agribusiness, Department: Agribusiness. In 2003, she received a Master's degree from CIHEAM, Zaragoza, Spain, on "Sustainable Economic Development in Relation to the Environment." Since 2022, she holds the Scientific Degree of Doctor of Sciences defended at the Agricultural University of Tirana, Faculty of Economics and Agribusiness.
Her scientific works in the field of economics and management have been presented and published in a number of National and International Scientific Conferences and Journals, such as in Montenegro, Italy, Bulgaria, etc.
He has also published in journals such as the European Research Studies Journal (ERSJ), IJEES, as well as in the journal: Economicus.
Martin Kuka is a lecturer at the Department of Economic Sciences of the “Aleksandër Moisiu” University, Durrës. He holds a 4-year Bachelor’s degree (consolidated by the Ministry of Education as a Master of Science) from the University of Athens in the field of Philosophy, another 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the State University of New York – Empire State College, a Master of Science degree from the University of Athens in Sociology, as well as two Master’s degrees (MA and Mphil) in Philosophy from the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. As of 2022, he holds the scientific degree of Doctor of Science obtained at the Harokopio University of Athens, with the doctoral thesis “Space and Politics. Sociological Transformations in the Period of Globalization”.
Martin Kuka is the author of the book Hyrje në Teorinë e Lojës, (Botimet Albpaper, Tirana, 2014), as well as several lectures for bachelor and master students of the Department of Economic Sciences. He has participated in many international conferences, with the main topic being Albanian emigration.
