“American Dream” at the University of Durrës: The extraordinary story of Beqir Potka

Last week brought a special event at the Faculty of Education of the University of Durrës, where the work “American Dream – The Extraordinary Story of Beqir Potka, from Communist Hell to the Promised Land”, by author Eris Rusi, was inaugurated. A powerful narrative that brings to mind the inspiring story of a young man who challenged the communist system and found freedom in the United States of America.

🌟 A special moment in this activity was the presence of the book's character himself, Beqir Potka., who had come especially from the USA to share his life story with those present. He emotionally recounted the efforts, courage, and experiences that accompanied him on the path to freedom and the realization of the American dream.

🗣️ The event was also enriched by the contribution of the translator of the work into English, Assoc. Prof. Eriola Bonja Qafzezi, accompanied by her colleague Assoc. Prof. Dorela Kacauni, who shared the challenges and responsibility of translating this historically significant work.

👥 The event was attended by well-known academic figures such as:

  • Prof. assoc. Suela Kastrati (vice rector),
  • Assoc. Prof. Edlira Abdurahmani (head of the department),
  • Dr. Drita Isufaj (Department of Literature),
  • Dr. Florinda Boriçi and Dr. Elira Xhakollari (Department of English Language).

Our students were also present, to whom we express our heartfelt thanks for their interest and active participation.

🎙️ The activity was moderated by Assoc. Prof. Manjola Zaçellari, while the highlight of the event was the presentation of a Certificate of appreciation from the University of Durres for Beqir Potka, through Vice-Rector Suela Kastrati. The certificate stated:

"For the historic contribution, as part of the Albanian-American community in America, that fulfilled Faik Konica's will to rest forever in his homeland and for preserving the cultural values ​​of our country in the United States of America."


📝 This activity reminds us of the importance of preserving historical memory and the inspiration that comes from individuals who did not give up in the face of difficulties, but created a new path for themselves and their community.
