Altin Dumani at UAMD: Awareness and empowerment of young people against corruption

Career, Alumni and Communication Sector, in collaboration with Komitetin Shqiptar të Helsinkit (KShH), organized an awareness-raising session with students of the "Aleksandër Moisiu" University of Durrës, with a focus on increasing civic awareness, strengthening integrity and encouraging the active participation of young people in the fight against corruption.

This activity aimed to strengthen the role of young people as a factor of change in society, by informing them about the challenges and achievements in confronting corrupt phenomena, as well as the importance of reporting and denouncing them.

During the session, students were introduced to the functioning and role of Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK), as one of the most important institutions of justice reform in our country.

The special guest at this event was z. Altin Dumani, who shared with the young people the experience of the institution from its founding to the present day. He emphasized that the fight against corruption is not only the responsibility of SPAK, but one common task of all institutions and society itself.

Mr. Dumani focused on the challenges of the first years of the institution, underlining that despite the initial difficulties, SPAK has managed to build a new standard in the fight against corruption and organized crime. He assessed the results so far, noting that charges have been filed against high-ranking political figures, including mayors, MPs and ministers.

According to him, the fact that for about 50% of the defendants have been convicted by the courts, shows that the work of SPAK is also supported by the judicial system.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Dumani announced that next week he will hand over the task to his successor, Mr. Klodian Braho, who will be the new head of SPAK for the next three years.

This session marked another concrete step in the efforts to empowering young people as an active voice against impunity and promoting a culture of integrity in society.
