November 15, 2024: Activism for Plastic Waste Reduction and Environmental Protection, organized and supported by "House of Europe".

The focus of the Competition among 12 schools in Durrës, organized with the support of the "Europe House", at the 9th Grade School "14 Nëntori", reconstructed after the earthquake of November 26, 2019, with the support of the European Union through the "EU for Schools" program.
"We have not only beautiful buildings, but also humane people within them, who take action for the times we live in, such as protecting the environment from plastic", said, among others, the representative of the European Union Delegation to Albania, Mr. Jean Baptiste Le Bras, who encouraged the actions taken by the children and youth of Durrës.
The 12 schools included in the plastic collection competition received participation certificates from the EU office in Albania for their actions in protecting the environment, where the artistic installations of the schools "Vinçenc Prendushi", "Bajram Curri", "Jusuf Puka", "Kushtrimi i Lirisë", etc. were also viewed with interest, where representatives from EU member states were also present at the activity.
The prizes distributed were based on the amount of plastic collected and recycled by the 12 schools involved in the competition.
The first prize went to the “Marie Kaçuli” school, 500 euros;
The second prize went to the “Bilal Golemi” school, Xhafzotaj, 300 euros;
The third prize went to the "Jusuf Puka" school, 200 euros.

●250 students from 12 9-year schools participated.
●A total of 2080 kg of plastic were collected and 1655 kg of them, or 80%, were recycled, to be converted into sports and recreational equipment for educational facilities!

With the proceeds from recyclable plastics on this competition day, Durrës school students provided a ping pong court to UAMD students, as a message of gratitude for all their cooperation for almost 5 years in environmental education and circular economy.

Durrës schools have benefited from didactic, sports and greening tools from the recycling of plastic bottles from home to school, as a collective collaboration with UAMD students, the Municipality of Durrës and businesses.

Thank you to the House of Europe for the impressive activities it organizes for us from time to time!

Our journalist from Durrës, a historical and tourist city, known for activism and truth investigation, also appreciated by the European Union for investigative journalism in Albania, Geri Emiri, moderated this activity.

"We, as UAMD, will continue with other community organizations month after month with the students and pupils of Durrës. to change people's behavior regarding the separation of plastic bottles at the source, before they end up on the banks of rivers and the sea"! - said Laura Gjyli, UAMD lecturer and initiator of the volunteer movement River Cleanup Albania/ Clean Ishëm River.
